4 Changes in the Breast during the 2nd Trimester
The 2nd trimester calls for phase 2 of growth and development within the mother's body. Expected changes that take place in the breast are as follows:
1) The breasts may become bigger and fuller. The 2nd trimester calls for further growth in the breast tissue. This growth can be rapid or slow and/or slight or a lot, varying from individual to individual. You may need to go shopping and buy bigger bras or bra extenders.
2) Your breasts may start leaking. The breast starts producing colostrum in the first couple of weeks of the second trimester. This may or may not cause leaky breasts. In case it does, its perfectly alright.
3) You may develop stretch marks on your breasts. Stretch marks generally form when there is a sudden increase or decrease in weight. Sometimes women tend to suddenly put on weight on the breasts in the second trimester so stretch marks are fairly common at this time. It also depends on one's skin elasticity and one's predisposition to them in the first place. Therefore it's important to keep your skin well moisturized.
4) The nipples and the areola may darken further. The nipples and areola darken due to hormonal changes. This starts in the first trimester itself. But it may get even darker as the pregnancy progresses.
